BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference arch-rival the University of Mount Union, 1-0, Wednesday evening on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The win helped the Yellow Jackets (8-6-1) remain undefeated and in first place in the OAC at 4-0.

In the first half, BW scored the only goal of the match at the 17:55 mark against Mount Union (8-5, 1-3 OAC) off a free kick. Freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) was credited with her seventh assist and sophomore defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) scored her fifth goal and the game-winner when she slid the ball past the outstretched hands of the Purple Raider goalie and into the left corner of the net.

The Yellow Jackets, who won their fourth straight match and seventh in their last eight outings, played solid defense and kept the Purple Raiders from putting a goal past junior All-OAC goalkeeper Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) who had one save. The shutout was the fifth this season for BW and fourth individual and 16th career shutout for Tallmadge.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Purple Raiders, 8-3, including a 6-1 advantage in shots on-goal, and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 18 when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio to play the Wilmington College Quakers at 7 p.m. in an OAC clash. The next Yellow Jacket home match is on Tuesday, Oct. 21 versus Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
