BW Women Lose, 2-1 on OT, at Capital in Regular Season Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference Capital University, 2-1 in overtime, on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium. This was the final regular season game for each team.  The 2014 OAC Tournament begins next week.  

With its loss, BW finished the regular season at 9-8-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the OAC and now must await results regarding John Carroll University and the University of Mount Union to find out who and where it plays in its first OAC tourney game on Tuesday, Nov. 4.  

Capital (13-5-1 overall, 6-2-1 OAC) is seeded third in the OAC tourney and also opens play on Tuesday.  Otterbein University (7-0-1 prior to its game tonight) won the regular season title and Ohio Northern University (6-2-1) won a tie-breaker by beating Capital earlier this season and is seeded second.  

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets gained a 1-0 lead at 21:43 when sophomore defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) scored her sixth goal this season off a free kick from 45 yards away as the boot sailed just over the outstretched hands of the Crusader goalie.  In the stanza, BW attempted just two shots compared to Capital's five, but led 1-0 at the intermission.  

In the second half, Capital tied the game at 1-1 at the 81:00 mark when freshman defender Mary Bushee headed in a corner kick provided by sophomore forward Becca Cartmill.  

In overtime, Capital scored the game-winner at 97:15 when junior midfielder Mirah Richards scored on a header following a free kick from 25 yards out by sophomore MF Claire Quinn.  

The Crusaders outshot the Yellow Jackets, 22-3, and held a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Capital also had a 9-0 lead in corner kicks.  

In goal for BW, junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC goalie Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./ Fairview) faced 22 total shots, including nine shots on goal and made seven saves as she fell to 9-8-3 overall.  

The OAC Tournament semifinals are on Thursday, Nov. 6 at either JCU or ONU, depending upon the Tuesday matchups. The 2014 OAC Championship match is on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the site of the highest remaining seeded team.  Game times is to be announced.
