BW Women's Soccer Loses at Oberlin, 3-1

OBERLIN, Ohio- -  The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team dropped its match to Oberlin College, 3-1, Thursday evening at Fred Shults Field. The loss broke a three-match Yellow Jacket winning streak.

In the first half, Oberlin (8-3) scored the first goal of the evening eight minutes into the match as Gwennie Gardiner tallied her fifth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.  Megan Herman was credited on the assist.  Oberlin continued to attack the net as Ellie Huizenga put OC up 2-0 at the 22:57 mark with her third goal of the season.  Elyse Douglas was credited on the assist.  

BW (4-6-1) cut the deficit in half to 2-1 when freshman midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) scored her third goal of the season at the 35:21 mark. She played the ball from the far side of the field to the top of the box and ripped a shot over Oberlin's goalie.  Freshman defender Kori Miller (North Olmsted/ Parma heights Holy Name) was credited on the assist. The Yellow Jackets had five shots on goal in the first stanza.      

In the second half, Oberlin added to its lead as Gardiner scored her second goal of the match and sixth goal of the season.  Katie Mercer-Taylor was credited on the assist.  That ended the scoring.

Despite the loss, BW outshot Oberlin, 13-10, and had seven shots on goal.

This Saturday, October 4, the Yellow Jackets open 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference play at Muskingum University in New Concord in the nightcap of a men's and women's doubleheader. The BW and Muskingum men play at 1 p.m. and the women kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
