BW Loses to Penn State Behrend on Penalty Kick

ERIE, Pa. -- The 2014 Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team lost to host Penn State Behrend, 3-2, in its final game of the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets opened the tourney with a 2-0 loss to SUNY-Geneseo (N.Y.) on Saturday in Erie.

In the first half, the Lions of PS-Behrend (2-0) struck first at the 18:30 mark whenophomore forward Alex Bilka scored in the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.  Bilka's goal was her third of the season.  Senior defender Shelby Lloyd was credited on the assist.  

The Yellow Jackets (0-2) answered back as sophomore defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) tied the score at 1-1 on a header off of a corner kick from freshman defender Courtney Schutz (Mentor) at the 22:16 mark.

The Lions would break the tie and take a 2-1 advantage at the 24:13 mark when sophomore forward Allyson Lonas scored her first goal of the campaign off of a low right direct kick.

Undaunted, at the 31:54 mark, BW matched Lonas' goal when sophomore forward Aly Lehky (Cincinnati/ Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) tied the score at 2-2 when she booted her first goal of the season from the top of the box.  Sophomore forward Chelsey Turk (Mayville, Wisc.) was credited on the assist.  The game remained tied at the intermission.  


More than midway through the second half, Bilka scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season with a penalty kick at the 70:43 mark to give the Lions a 3-2 lead. PS Behrend then played staunch defense the rest of the way to stay unbeaten and capture the tourney title.  

The BW women are back in action this Tuesday, Sept. 2 when they host Ohio Wesleyan University on the Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 7 pm. Next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6, the Yellow Jackets will play at the Capital University Classic.
