Mangas’ Game and Season-High Aids BW Women’s Basketball Win against Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) scored a game and season-high 18 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated the University of Mount Union, 70-65, in an OAC game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (14-4, 9-2 OAC) has now won two straight and 11 of its last 13 games. The win also avenged a 68-59 loss at Mount Union (8-10, 4-7 OAC) earlier this season on December 3, 2014.

In addition to Mangas for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard/forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) recoded 11 points. Sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and added eight points.

The Purple Raiders were led by junior All-OAC guard Annie Bova with 17 points. Junior guard Katie Reed tallied 14 points.

BW opened the game on a 14-4 run on a jumper by junior guard/forward Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) at the 13:02 mark. Mount Union outscored the Yellow Jackets 31-22 the remainder of the half but trailed 36-35 at the intermission.

The Purple Raiders tied the game at 38-38 on a three-pointer by senior guard Nancy Osborne at the 19:11 mark. After the game was tied at 40, BW went on a 10-4 run to push the lead to 50-44 on a traditional three-point play by junior guard Ally Dehart (Beaver, Pa.) at 12:14.

The Yellow Jackets then went on a 12-5 run to extend the lead to 62-49 on a trey by Alissa Munro at the 8:10 mark. Mount Union answered back with a 13-3 run to cut the lead to 65-62 on a layup by junior guard Shayna Panchik at 2:06. BW outscored the Purple Raiders 5-3 down the stretch to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, January 31 when they host Marietta College and BW Alumnus Stacia Shrider '08 for an OAC game in the Ursprung Gym at 3 p.m.
