Yellow Jackets Drop First Game of Puerto Rico Invitational to No. 4 Tufts (Mass.)

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team dropped its opening game of the Puerto Rico Invitational to No.4-ranked Tufts (Mass.) University by a final score of 57-44 in the Guillermo Anguilla Coliseo.

BW (7-3) was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard/forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) as she recorded her fifth career double-double with a game-high 14 points and a career and game-best 11 rebounds.  In addition, sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Louisville) also scored in double figures as she tallied a career-high 11 points.  Tufts (9-1) was led by Hanna Foley with 10 points.
 
The game featured six ties and nine lead changes with the Yellow Jackets trailing the Jumbos by a score of 28-25 at the intermission.   Tufts outscored BW in the second half 29-19 and held the game's largest lead of 15 points at 55-40.   The Yellow Jackets had their largest run at 12-1 while the Jumbos had their largest run at 14-2.
 
BW concludes play at the Puerto Rico Invitational on Wednesday, December 31 when it faces Emmanuel (Mass.) College at 11 a.m.  The Yellow Jackets return to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 when it hosts Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University at 7:30 p.m.
