BW Women Beat Otterbein, 67-60, in Westerville

WESTERVILLE, OHIO --  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) scored a team-high 12 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Otterbein University, 67-60, in an OAC game in the Rike Center. The win was BW's third straight versus the Cardinals dating back to the 2012-2013 season.

In addition for BW (4-2, 1-1 OAC), senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) had 10 points. Otterbein (2-5, 0-2 OAC) was led by junior forward Amariah Huck's game-high 22 points.

In the first half, Otterbein built an early, 9-4 lead at 16:14 before BW wet on a 6-0 run to take a 10-9 lead at 14:12 when junior guard Erin Allen (Girard, Pa./ Girard) made a layup. Following seven lead changes and a tie, BW took command and went in front for good at the 8:42 mark wen Allen canned a three-pointer. The biggest first half advantage was 16 points at 37-21 with 1:45 left when Smolik made a layup. BW also led at halftime, 37-23.

In the second half, Otterbein chipped away at the Yellow Jacket lead and got as close as two points on two separate occassions, including the last with 2:52 remaining. Down the stretch, BW made a layup by sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/ Louisville), pair of jumpers by sophomore guard Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy) and Allen and canned a pair of foul shots by Mangas to hold off Otterbein.

The BW women return to action on Saturday, December 13 when the Yellow Jackets host Muskingum University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 3:00 p.m.
