Lemmon’s Career-High Leads BW Women’s Basketball to Win against Marietta

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) scored a career and game-high 15 points, including 12 in the first half, as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Marietta College, 75-51, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.

The Yellow Jackets (15-4, 10-2 OAC), who moved into a three-way tie for first place in the OAC when John Carroll beat Ohio Northern today, swept the season series versus Marietta (7-12, 3-9 OAC) and has now won 11 straight games against the Pioneers, who are coached by 2008 BW, graduate Stacia Schrider.

In addition to Lemmon for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore guard Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy) scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Morgan Liedtke led Marietta as she scored nine points.

BW opened the game on an 18-8 run on a layup by senior All-OAC guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) at the 13:01 mark. The Pioneers responded with a 5-2 run to cut the lead down to 20-13 on three-pointer by sophomore guard Jordanna Rauch at 11:01. The Yellow outscored Marietta 25-17 the remainder of the opening period and led 45-30 at the intermission.

The first half deficit was too much for the Pioneers to overcome. The closest Marietta got to BW was 13 points at 45-32 on a jumper by Alexander at the 18:24 mark. BW pushed its lead to many as 33 points on two occasions with the last coming at 75-42 on a pair of free throws by junior guard She'Kiera Brooks (Akron/ Hoban). MC scored the final nine points of the game to make the score look closer.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, February 4 when they travel to Tiffin for an OAC game against Heidelberg University in the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The next home game is on Saturday, February 7 when BW hosts Otterbein University on "Take a Kid to the Game" in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
