Smolik Scores 1000th Career Point but BW Falls to OAC Leader Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard/forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) scored her 1,000th career point but the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team was defeated by OAC-leader Ohio Northern University, 63-52, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Smolik became the 14th member of the Yellow Jacket 1,000-point club. She needs three points to move past Kim Luthman (1997-2001) with 1,002 points into 13th place and is 17 points shy of 12th place.

BW (18-6, 13-4 OAC) was led by sophomore guard Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Acadmey) as she scored 15 points. Junior guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) added 12 points.

Ohio Northern (19-5, 15-2 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by senior forward Jordan Kimes with a game-high 18 points. Junior forward Karissa Steffas tallied 11 and junior guard Carly Thomas contributed 10.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 5-0 run when sophomore guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) knocked down a three-pointer at the 18:03 mark. The Polar Bears closed out the half on a 25-6 run and lead 25-11 at intermission.

Ohio Northern opened the second half on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 29-11 when Kimes knocked down a pair from the charity stripe at the 18:31. BW responded with a 9-4 run to cut the lead down to 33-20 on a layup by Feaster at 14:54. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 55-47 on a jumper by Feaster at 1:56. The Polar Bears outscored BW 8-5 down the stretch.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, February 21 when it hosts and OAC game against Capital University on Seniors' and Parents' Day in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 3 p.m.

BW will enter next week's OAC Tournament as the third seed and will host the first game of a women's and men's OAC second round doubleheader on Tuesday, February 24 at 6 p.m. The men's team will play 30-minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.
