Today's Game: Today is the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference opener for Baldwin Wallace as it hosts crosstown rival John Carroll University in the 29th Battle for the Cuyahoga Golf Bowl Trophy and Community and Family Day.  BW opened the season on September 9 as it defeated Defiance College, 42-2, in its lone non-conference game.   John Carroll opened the season with a 23-17 loss to No. 3 nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Series Notes:  BW and John Carroll and Blue Streaks have met 56 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks leads the all-time series 27-25-4. John Carroll leads the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series by a count of 15-13, including winning four straight.  The Blue Streaks have won seven of the last 13 games, including a 17-10 victory in University Heights a season ago.  The home team has won 12 of the past 15 meetings. The series began in 1923 when JCU defeated BW, 19-13.  Two notable names who have taken part in this series, BW graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and JCU grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula.

Last Meeting on September 17, 2016: BW scored 10 points on 104 rushing yards, 28 passing yards and 132 total yards. John Carroll scored 17 points, including 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Blue Streaks had 244 rushing yards, 82 rushing yards and 326 total yards

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert:   Jim Hilvert is in his first season at BW. He is 68-19 in nine overall and is 1-1 against JCU. Hilvert is 0-0 in OAC games.

John Carroll Head Coach Aaron Mershman:  Rick Finotti is in his first season at JCU with a 0-0 record. He is 0-0 vs. Baldwin Wallace.

Scouting BW:  In week one of the season, BW scored 42 points, including 35 unanswered second half points.  BW tallied 219 passing yards, 167 rushing yards and 386 total yards. Defiance scored its only two points just 1:54 into the second half. Defiance had 147 passing yards, 68 rushing yards and 215 total yards. 

Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders: Offensively, junior quarterback Jake Hudson (East Lake, Fla.) has completed 13 of 25 passes for 165 yards and one TD.  Freshman running back TyQuann McCray (Rock Hill, S.C.) and junior All-OAC running back Austin Smith (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) leads the rushing attack.  McCray has 47 yards on nine carries with one TD and Smith has 37 yards on 14 carries with one TD.   Junior wide out Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Willamsville North) leads the receiving corps with five catches for 77 yards and two TDs.  Defensively, sophomore defensive lineman Sekou Imani (Dover) leads the team with eight tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack.  Junior defensive back Andrew Groves (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) is second with six stops but leads the team with one interception that he returned 60-yards for a TD.

Scouting John Carroll: In week one of the season, JCU scored 17 points on 209 passing yards, 51 rushing yards and 260 total yards. Oshkosh scored 23 points on 306 rushing yards, 39 passing yards and 345 total yards. 

Blue Streak Statistical Leaders: Offensively, sophomore quarterback Anthony Moeglin has completed eight of 19 passes for 120 yards and one TD.  Junior quarterback Riley Larkin leads the ground attack with 13 yards on three carries.  Junior wide receiver Eddie Williamson and senior wide out Brian Kornowski lead the receiving corps.  Williamson had one catch for 72 yards and a TD while Kornowski made eight receptions for 60 yards.   Defensively, senior linebacker Mason McKenrick tops the team with 13 tackles. Senior linebacker Todd Green is second with 12 stops.
