Today's Game -- Today is the 2017 season opener for Baldwin Wallace, which is kicking off its 124th football season. BW has won 6 of its last 9 season openers, including a 42-0 victory over Defiance last year.

Series Notes --  BW and Defiance have met three times on the gridiron with BW every game. BW beat the Defiance ,26-15, in 1916 in Defiance and trounced Defiance, 60-0, in 1920. 

Last Meeting -- BW opened the 2016 campaign with a 42-0 shutout of Defiance in the 39th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on September 1.   BW outgained Defiance 324-183 in total yards, including a 134-53 advantage on the ground and a 190-130 advantage throuhg the air.  BW senior running back Austin Smith (Broadview Hts./North Royalton) and Defiance senior linebacker Markell Moncrief were named the Shrine Players of the Game for their respective teams.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert:  Hilvert is in his first season at BW. He is 67-19 in eight overall overall and is 0-0 against DC. Hilvert is 5-3 in season openers. 

DefianceHead Coach Aaron Mershman: Mershman is in his first season at DC with a 0-0 record. He is 0-0 vs. Baldwin Wallace.

Scouting BW
BW returns 36 lettermen and 14 starters from last year's team that finished 3-7 overall and 2-7 in the OAC.  BW averaged 28.5 points-per-game and allowed 29.2 ppg. BW gained 351.4 yards per game, including 185.5 through the air and 165.9 on the ground.

Scouting Defiance
Defiance returns 32 lettermen from last year's team that finished 5-5 overall.  Defiance scored 20.6 points-per-game and allowed 23.5 ppg. Defiance averaged 315.3 yards of total offense per game, including 178.9 through the air and 136.9 on the ground.
