Football Closes Out Home Schedule with Victory Over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University football team closed out the home portion of its schedule as it defeated Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' and Parents' Day game by a final score of 27-10 on the Tressel Field inside Finnie Stadium. 

BW (6-3, 5-3 OAC), who scored all of its points in the second half, improved to 48-23 in the all-time series and won its second straight game. Heidelberg (6-3, 5-3 OAC) lost its second game in its last three contests.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior quarterback Jake Hudson (East Lake, Fla.) as completed 14 of 20 passes for 157 yards with two touchdowns.  Hudson also led the ground attack with 69 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Deion Greer (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) led the receiving corps as he caught four passes for 70 yards with a 40-yard touchdown.  Defensively, senior All-OAC linebacker Sam Groff (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) made a game-high 11 tackles.

The Heidelberg offensive attack was led by senior All-OAC quarterback Tyler Stoyle as he completed 17 of 37 passes for 141 yards. Senior running back Cameron Vocke led the rushing game with 108 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.  Senior wide receiver Demetrius Magee led the air assault as he caught five passes for 55 yards.  Defensively, junior linebacker Trevor Summers made 10 tackles.

The Student Princes scored the only points of the first half when junior kicker Austin Baker hit a 30-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.

BW opened the second half scoring and took its first lead at 7-3 when Hudson found Wolfington on a 19-yard pass play at the 9:40 mark.   Freshman kicker Brandon Vollmer (Pickerington/Central) added the extra point.  Heidelberg regained the lead at 10-7 when Vocke scored on a one-yard run at 5:07.  Baker added the extra point.  The Yellow Jackets responded and regained the lead at 13-10 when junior quarterback Matt Lowry (Rocky River) scored on an eight-yard touchdown out of the wildcat formation at the 2:42 mark.   Vollmer's extra point was blocked.

BW added to its lead at 20-10 when Greer caught a 40-yard pass from Hudson at 14:00 of the fourth quarter.  Vollmer tacked on the extra point.  The Yellow Jackets scored their final points at 27-10 when Hudson scored on a 15-yard run at the 1:41 mark.  Vollmer added the extra point.

BW closes out the 2017 season on Saturday, November 11 when it travels to Ada for an OAC game against Ohio Norther University inside Dial-Robertson Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
