MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Baldwin Wallace University senior football team captain Trypp Washington '18 (Eatonville, Fla./ Orlando First Academy) is heading south to play in the Ninth Annual D3 Senior Classic All-Star Game on December 16. The game is part of the 2017 International Scouting Showcase.
The ISS is comprised of three collegiate all-star games, two free-agent scout bowls, one national kicking championship and one pro-level combine. It is the largest and most prestigious post-season scouting opportunity in the world. The entire event which spans four days, is powered by FreeAgentFootball.com (FAF).
The second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference safety and return specialist was one of the most versatile performers in Division III football the past four seasons. He departs Berea and arrives in Myrtle Beach on December 14 for two days or orientation (Dec. 14) and practices (Dec. 15) and then the game (Dec. 16) at 12:30 p.m. The d2/ NAIA All-Star Classic follows at 4 p.m.
Washington earned four varsity letters in football and ran two seasons of indoor (winter) and outdoor (spring) track and lettered each season.
Washington was an outstanding four-year starter in football for the Yellow Jackets. He helped BW to a 21-19 record. Individually, he played in 40 career games, had 219 career tackles, nine tackles for loss, nine interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered another and broke up 30 total passes.
"I am very happy for Trypp being selected to the D3 Senior Classic All-Star Game," said first-year BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert. "I believe his selection says a lot about Trypp the person and the football player.
"Trypp made an immediate impact since he arrived at BW," said Hilvert. "He was a leader on and off the field. He was an extremely hard worker that loved the game of football and BW. He was a great teammate that cared dearly about his fellow man. He led by example and was not afraid to come out of his comfort zone and saying something to his teammate.
"Trypp being selected to the D3 Senior Classic All-Star Game gives Baldwin Wallace University and the football program great exposure," said Hilvert. "He being selected sheds light on the good things that are going on at BW. Trypp exemplifies what a BW Yellow Jacket should be when he or she graduates from the institution."
As a freshman in 2014-15, Washington played his first season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He saw action in all 10 varsity games at strong safety and returned kickoffs. He had 21 total tackles, including eight solo stops, one tackle for lost yardage, two interceptions and four additional pass breakups. Washington also returned 13 kickoffs for a 20.8-yard average with a long return of 38 yards. BW finished 5-5 overall.
As a sophomore in 2015-16, Washington played his second season of football and earned his second letter. The starting strong safety was one of BW's top defensive players. He also returned punts and kickoffs. Washington started all 10 games and was fourth on the team with 63 tackles, including 38 solo stops and one tackle for loss. He also had one interception and six total pass breakups. He returned 14 kickoffs for a 16.8-yard average with a long return of 33 yards, and he returned four punts for an 8.0-yard average with a long return of 16 yards. BW finished 7-3 overall.
As a junior in 2016-2017, Washington played his third season of football and earned his third varsity letter. He played in all 10 games and started at free safety for the second straight year, and returned both punts and kickoffs. On defense, Washington was second on the team with a career-high 61 tackles, including four for loss (25 yards). He led the team with three interceptions and was second with six total pass breakups. Washington also forced one fumble, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick. BW finished 3-7 overall.
As a senior in 2017-2018, Washington played his fourth season of football and earned his fourth letter. He started at safety for the fourth straight year and served as a team captain. He finished second on the team in tackles with 73 and led the squad with three interceptions. He received second-team All-OAC honors. Washington played in and started all 10 games, was second on the team with 74 tackles and first with three interceptions and 10 total pass breakups. BW finished 6-4 overall.
