BEREA, Ohio – Seventeen Baldwin Wallace University winter sport student-athletes earned Acaemic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors. A student-athlete must maintain a sophomore or higher class standing, maintain varsity status and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.496 (rounded up to 3.5).
The men’s basketball team, which finished 18-9 overall and had its fourth straight winning season, was represented by senior Josh Ingle (Shelby/ 3.84 in mathematics), juniors Zach Warner (Clyde/ 3.97 in pre-physical therapy) and Ryan Walsh (Easton, Pa./ 3.7 in international business and sophomores Zach Brandy (Hudson/ 3.79/ undecided) and Steve Johnson (Olmsted Falls/ 3.81 in finance).
The women’s basketball team had a 22-7 record, won the OAC Tournament title and advanced to its second straight NCAA Division III National Tournament. It was represented by five student-athletes, including senior OAC Tournament MVP and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 standout Audrey Smolik (Strongsville/ 3.88 in middle childhood education), juniors Erin Allen (Girard, Pa./ 3.79 in athletic training) and Allyson Helleis (Rocky River/ 3.72 in pre-physical therapy) and sophomores Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg/ 3.7 in communication disorders) and Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy/ 3.6 in public relations).
The wrestling team set a school-record with 17 victories, had a 17-6 overall record, sent three wrestlers t0 the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament and had a pair of All-Americans. The Academic All-OAC honorees are juniors Ben LeBrun (Strongsville/ 3.73 in international studies) and Aric Cross (Geneva/ 3.59 in accounting) and sophomores Andrew Shackelford (Hinckley/ Brunswick/ 3.68 in exercise science) and Graham Montague (Independence/ 3.74 in biology).
The swimming teams had three honorees. They are senior Emily Payne (Ligonier, Pa./ Ligonier Valley/ 3.72 in public relatiins) and juniors Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon/ 3.76 in early childhood education) and Nathan Onchuck (Darien, Ill./ Hinsdale South/ 3.73 in sustainability and business administration).
