Kuhn's Game-High Not Enough as BW Men's Basketball Drops OAC Game at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Freshman guard Cameron Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high 23 points but the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell at the University of Mount Union, 83-72 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

In addition to Kuhn for BW (13-5, 7-4 OAC), senior guard and the OAC's leading scorer Justin Roth (Parma) had 18 markers.  Mt. Union (13-5, 9-2 OAC) was led by sophomore guard DeAllen Jackson with 21 points. He was one of three Mt. Union players in double digits. The Purple Raiders swept the season series from the Yellow Jackets.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets opened the game with a 7-2 lead at 18:31 when Kuhn made a layup. After Mt. Union closed the gap to 7-6, BW outscored the Purple Raiders 14-4 to build their second of two 11-point leads at 21-10 at 10:00 when sophomore forward Jaelen Hollinger (Akron/ Hoban) made two foul shots.

Mt. Union then ended the half on a 35-11 run that included an 18-0 streak. The Raiders took the lead at 23-21 at 7:56 when sophomore guard Kyle Scelza came off the bench to make the first of three first half three-pointers. The 18-0 run ended with Mt. Union leading 28-21 and its largest lead was two 15-point bulges. The score was 45-32 at halftime.

In the second half, Mt. Union built its largest lead of the game at 58-42 at 12:48 before the Yellow Jackets closed the gap to 58-49 at 10:09 when Hollinger made a layup. After Mt. Union rebuilt its lead to 15 points, undaunted BW got as close as six points on three separate occasions with the last at 78-72 with 52 seconds left when Kuhn split a pair of free throws.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, January 31 when they travel to Marietta to play the first place, undefeated and No.3-ranked Pioneers in the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse at 3 p.m. The next home game is on Wednesday, February 4 versus Heidelberg University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
