Women's Volleyball Splits at Baldwin Wallace Tri-Match

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team competed in the Baldwin Wallace Tri-Match beating Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Muskingum University 3-0 and falling to No. 1 nationally ranked Juniata College by a score of 3-0 in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. 

BW (10-10, 3-2 OAC) opened the tri-match by beating the Fighting Muskies in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-22. The Yellow Jackets closed out the tri-match as it fell to Juniata in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-18.               .

vs. Muskingum (5-13, 2-3 OAC)

  • Junior outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) recorded eight kills and 14 digs
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/St. Joseph Academy) led the defense with 23 digs while adding three assists
  • Senior All-OAC setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby) finished with 11 digs and 21 assists
  • Senior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South), sophomore middle hitter Maleia Thurber (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral), and freshman outside hitter Alexis Smith (Tiffin/Columbian) each recorded two blocks
  • Sophomore setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.) had eight digs, 11 assists, and three aces

vs. Juniata (19-0)

  • Sophomore libero Jamie Snell (Strongsville) totaled 20 digs and had three assists
  • Junior outside hitter Sydney Simonson (Sullivan/Black River) led the team in kills with nine 
  • Zawadzki added 15 assists
  • Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill./North) ended the day with a total of eight kills and 21 digs

BW is back in action on Wednesdsay, October 18 when it travels to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
