Women's Volleyball Wins Big Against John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University by a score of 3-1 in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW Leaders (9-9, 2-2 OAC)

  • Junior outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) had a career-high 19 kills while also adding 14 digs
  • Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) and sophomore outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill./North) each recorded four blocks
  • Senior All-OAC setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby) and sophomore setter Katarina Blazetic (DeLand, Fla.) each talllied 22 assists
  • Sophomore middle hitter Maleia Thurber (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) totaled nine kills and two blocks
  • Senior All-OAC libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/Saint Joseph Academy) added 22 digs

John Carroll Leaders (13-7, 2-2 OAC)

  • Senior right-side hitter Jennifer Follmer led the Blue Streaks with 10 kills
  • Senior setter Maddie Maziarz recorded a game-high 25 assists
  • Junior outside hitter Marissa Lynch and junior middle hitter Jessica Liddle each added eight kills

  • Yellow Jackets led in kills 12-11
  • Yellow Jackets hit .250
  • Blue Streaks hit .070

Second Set (BW 25-13)

  • Yellow Jackets led in kills 12-2
  • Yellow Jackets hit .276
  • Blue Streaks hit -.200

Third Set (JCU 25-18)

  • Each team had 12 kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .093
  • Blue Streaks hit .250

Fourth Set (BW 27-25)

  • Each team had 15 kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .225
