Women's Volleyball Takes Down Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team defeated Kenyon College by a score of 3-1 in Tomsich Arena at the Lowry Center.

After falling in the first set, BW took the next three sets thanks to four Yellow Jackets tallying eight or more kills including a team-high 14 from sophomore outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill./North). Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby) did it all for the Yellow Jackets as she recorded 22 assists, four kills, seven service aces, and two block assists.

BW Leaders (7-7)

  • Sophomore middle hitter Maleia Thurber (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) recorded eight kills and added three block assists while hitting .467
  • Sophomore libero Jamie Snell (Strongsville) led the defense with a career-high 23 digs while adding five assists
  • Junior Academic All-OAC right-side hitter Allison Weiner (Westerville/St. Francis DeSales) recorded nine kills while junior outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) added eight kills, 18 digs, and three service aces
  • Schlecht hit a career-high .591

Kenyon Leaders (3-11)

  • Senior outside hitter Lindsey Abramson led the team with nine kills
  • Sophomore setter Maggie Wolf recorded 25 assists
  • Sophomore defensive specialist Lauren Blakemore and freshman setter Hannah Schwemm combined for a total of 21 digs

First Set (Kenyon 25-23)

  • Each team had 15 kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .231
  • Owls hit .244

Second Set (BW 25-14)

  • Yellow Jackets led 13-10 in kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .417
  • Owls hit .100

Third Set (BW 25-13)

  • Yellow Jackets led 11-4 in kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .172

  • Yellow Jackets led 15-3 in kills
