Women’s Volleyball Drops a Pair at Muskie Invitational

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches at the Muskie Invitational hosted by Muskingum University on Performance Court inside the Anne C. Steele Center

BW (4-6) opened the invitational as it fell to No. 22 Mount St. Joseph University in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-20.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the invitational as it fell to Earlham (Ind.) College in five sets by scores of 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25 and 12-15. 

vs. Mount St. Joseph

  • Junior outside hitter Sydney Simonson (Sullivan/Black River) recorded eight kills
  • Junior outside hitter Sam Rueda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) tallied seven kills
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby) set up with the offense with 19 assists
  • Senior All-OAC libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/St. Joseph Academy) anchored the defense with 12 digs
  • Rueda added 11 digs

vs. Earlham

  • Simonson recorded a career-high and match-high 16 kills
  • Freshman outside hitter Alexis Smith (Tiffin/Columbian) tallied a career-high 12 kills
  • Rueda added 12 kills
  • Zawadzki set up the offense with a match-high 40 assists
  • Gardner anchored the defense with 24 digs
  • Rueda tallied a career-high tying 19 digs.
  • Sophomore Jamie Snell (Strongsville) recorded a career-high 13 digs 

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 when it travels to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete in the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Invitational inside the Hubert Arena.  The Yellow Jackets take on Olivet (Mich.) University on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then face Rose-Hulman and Anderson (Ind.) University on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
