Women’s Volleyball Knocks Off Mount Union, Advances to OAC Tournament Semifinals

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team defeated the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals match  by scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-14 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

No. 3-seeded BW (14-5) now advances to the OAC Tournament semifinals and will face second-seeded Otterbein University on Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m.   The other semifinals match will feature OAC regular season champion and top-seeded Muskingum University hosting No. 4 seeded Marietta College.  Mount Union (5-12) ends its spring season.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) as she hammered down a match-best 16 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) recorded a career-high 15 kills.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right side hitter Alexis Garrett (Mentor) contributed 14 kills.  Junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Stebel added 13 kills. Senior All-OAC setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) set up the offense with a season-high tying 53 assists.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) anchored the defensive unit with a match-high 24 digs.  Junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) tallied a season-best 19 digs and Earl added 17 digs.

The OAC Tournament championship will be contested on Saturday, April 17 on the campus of the highest remaining seed at 2 p.m.
