Women’s Volleyball Earns Second Sweep of Season with Wins over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio –  The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team earned it second Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of the season as it won both matches against Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (5-3, 5-3 OAC) has now defeated Heidelberg (5-3, 5-3 OAC) four out of the last five matches.

The Yellow Jackets won the first match in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-22.  BW completed the sweep as they took the second match in four sets by scores of 25-14, 27-25, 22-25 and 25-23.

Match 1
The offense attack was led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) as she recorded a match-high 12 kills. Junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Stebel (Union/Northmont)  tallied 10 kills and senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right side hitter Alexis Garrett (Mentor) added eight. Junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) had a career-high tying five service aces. Senior All-OAC setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) set up the offense with 35 assists. Senior Academic All-OAC libero/defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) anchored the defense with 16 digs. Martin contributed a season-best tying 12 digs.  Egan rounded out the backline with 10 digs.  Senior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Kail Nicholas (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) added a match-best three blocks. 

Match 2
Garrett led the offensive attack with a match-high 15 kills. Earl recorded 12 kills. Stebel and sophomore middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) contributed 10 kills each. The 10 kills were a career-best for Luciano.  Martin again had a career-best tying five service aces.  Reinhard led the defensive unit with a match-high and season-best 20 digs. Martin added a season-best tying 12 digs and Egan chipped in with 10. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 26 when they travel to New Concord for an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on Performance Court inside the Anne C. Steele Center at 6 p.m.
