Women’s Volleyball Wins a Pair on Seniors’ Night

BEREA, Ohio –  The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team opened the 2021 spring season as it won a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference matches over Capital University on Seniors' Night in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Between matches, BW honored its seven senior student-athletes in Academic All-OAC defensive specialist, libero and setter Sydni Colchagoff (Findlay/Liberty-Benton), All-OAC setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont), All-OAC and Academic right side hitter Alexis Garrett (Mentor), Academic All-OAC middle hitter Allison May (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas), Academic All-OAC middle hitter Kail Nicholas (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee), Academic All-OAC right side hitter and setter Sam Pruett (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) and All-OAC and Academic All-OAC libero/defensive specialist Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South).

The Yellow Jackets (2-0, 2-0 OAC) won the first match by scores of 25-19, 25-12 and 25-12.  BW took the second match by scores of 25-10, 25-15, 25-9.

Capital (0-4, 0-4 OAC) has now lost seven straight matches to the Yellow Jackets. 

Match 1
The offense attack was sparked by junior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Stebel (Union/Northmont) with a match-high 12 kills. Garrett and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Early (Howell, Mich.) added nine kills apiece. Egan set up the offense with a match-best 34 assists. Reinhard anchored the defense with a match-high 13 digs while Egan added eight digs. 

Match 2
Stebel once again led the offense as she recorded a match-best 10 kills.  Earl, Garrett and Nicholas all added five kills. Egan ran the offense with a match-high 10 assists. Reinhard secured the backline with a match-best 14 digs.  Earl and junior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist/libero Isabella Moskowitz (Brighton, Mich.) contributed five digs each.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, March 16 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University at 6 p.m.
