BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of matches on day two (Saturday, September 12, 2009) of the College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets defeated LaRoche (Pa.) College 3-1 in their opener but fell to Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University 3-1 in their second match of the day.
B-W defeated LaRoche 25-14, 25-7, 25-14.
Sophomore Leslie Purnell (Springfield/ Catholic Central) led the B-W offense with nine kills in 15 total attempts. Purnell was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts this weekend. Junior setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) recorded nine assists and a career-high eight service aces and freshman setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) recorded career-bests with 20 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) had the top digs total with 12.
CWRU beat the Jackets in four games in the second match of day 25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 25-15.
Nissen lead the B-W offense with nine kills and freshman Becky Palivoda (Burton/ Cornerstone Christian Academy) contributed seven kills. Passen had 13 assists and 11 digs and Stitts recorded 12 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) also tallied 14 digs.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action at Case Western Reserve on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. in University Circle.
