Yellow Jacket Volleyball Team Loses Four Times in Cincy

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College voleyball team lost all four of its matches this past weekend (Saturday and Sunday, September 26-27, 2009) at the annual College of Mount St. Joseph Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Wth its four defeats, the B-W women are now 3-16 overall prior to opening Ohio Athletic Conference play at Mount Union College on Saturday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Timken P.E. Building in Alliance.

In its four matches, B-W lost to both Bluffton, 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-13), and host MSJ, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15 and 25-16), on Saturday and then lost to both Hanover, Ind., 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 27-29 and 25-20) and Otterbein, 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 25-14) on Sunday.

In today's matches, B-W was led in the Hanover match by sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) with 10 kills and freshman OH Emily Dvorak (Westlake) with nine. On offense, junior setterCasey Passen (Ashville/Teays  Valley) had 19 assists and moved into fourth place on the B-W career list. Freshman setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) had 14.  On defense, B-W was led by freshman OH Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Parma Hts. Holy Name) with four blocks. In defensive digs, freshman defensive specialist  Natalie Emmons(Ashland/ Senior) had the most wth 25 and freshman DS Alex Gbur (Toledo/ Central Catholic) had 16.

Against Otterbein, the Yellow Jackets were led by Dvorak's eight kills and sophomore Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) and freshman Karianne Sifferlin (Wooster/Senior) each had seven kills. Setting was led by Passen with 16 assists and Stitts with 15.  Defensively, Switalski led the team with two blocks and by bothStitts and Emmons with 15 digs each.  

Following its match at Mt. Union next Saturday, B-W plays at OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. and then hosts back-to-back matches with Mt. St. Joseph visiting the Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Capital University coming to Berea on Saturday, Oct. 10 for a 1:00 p.m. OAC match.
