BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on day two (Saturday, September 19, 2009) of the Salisbury University Seagull Classic in Salisbury, Maryland. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-2 versus Richard Stockton (N.J.) College and lost 3-1 to host Salisbury College. Junior middle hitter Abbey Thompson (Lorain/ Clearview) was named to the All-Tournament team for B-W.
The Yellow Jackets fell in five to Richard Stockton 26-28, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-10.
Thompson led the B-W offense with a career-high 17 kills and sophomore Chelsea Nissen(Williston/ Genoa)added nine kills and five service aces. Freshman setter Jessica Stitts(Eastlake/North) had 26 assists and 19 digs while junior Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) had 20 assists and 21 digs. Freshman Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) had 38 digs for the Jackets and freshman Alex Gbur (Toledo/Central Catholic) chipped in four aces.
The Yellow Jackets lost to Salisbury 34-32, 25-14, 26-28, 25-19.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Dvorak (Westlake) had 13 kills for the Jacket attack and freshman Karianne Sifferlin (Wooster/Senior) added nine kills. Emmons had 18 more digs and Gbur also contributed 12 digs. Passen assisted 27 times and Stitts had 18 set assists of her own.
B-W returns to action next weekend at the College of Mount St. Joseph Fall Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27. The Yellow Jackets play Bluffton at 11:00 a.m. and Mount St. Joseph at 1:00 p.m. on day one.
