Yellow Jacket Volleyball Team Splits on Day One of Wooster Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one (Friday, September 11, 2009) of the College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets defeated Westminster (Pa.) 3-1 in their opener but fell to host Wooster 3-0 in their second match.

B-W defeated Westminster by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 24-26, 25-21.

Junior Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) led the Yellow Jackets with 28 set assists and a career-best 25 digs. Junior Abbey Thompson (Lorain/ Clearview) totaled a team-high 11 kills while sophomore Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) and freshman Natalie Emmons (Ashland/ Senior) helped pace the Jacket defense with 16 digs apiece. Junior Rebecca Pittenger (Alliance/ Senior) also totaled a career-high six service aces.

Wooster defeated the Yellow Jackets 25-14, 25-19, 25-23.

Freshman Becky Palivoda (Burton/ Cornerstone Christian Academy) totaled a team-high eight kills, Emmons recorded 18 digs and Passen picked up 14 assists.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow on day two of the Invitational and will play LaRoche (Pa.) at 11 a.m. and Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m. B-W also plays Case in their next match on Wednesday, September 16 in University Circle.
