Four Women’s Track Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA ALL-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Four Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field student-athletes have been honored with United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors.

Senior distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akon/Walsh Jesuit), senior thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve), sophomore distance runner Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain), and senior thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) are four of 477 NCAA Division IIII student-athletes to be recognized.

To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have a student-athlete must have at least a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 and above and either accepted into the NCAA Indoor Championship or finishing the regular indoor season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event.

Brennan, who earns her fourth straight honor, was an accounting and finance double major that carried a 3.974 grade point average.  She was a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American, five-time Academic All-OAC selection, two-time CoSIDA All-District 7 first-team selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Sigma Alpha honoraries. Brennan was an 18-time NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region performer (four cross country and 14 track), 17-time All-OAC selection (four cross country and 13 track), 13-time All-Ohio performer (four cross country and nine track), eight-time letterwinner (four in each sport), six-time Division III national qualifier (two cross country and four track) and four-time All-American (one cross country and three track).  She also holds five school-records indoors and four outdoors. In addition, Brennan served as the President and Treasurer of the BW Accounting Association.  She also was a team leader and recruiter for the cross country and track and field programs.

Buckhannon, who garners her third accolade, was a public relations major that carried a 3.88 GPA. She is a three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Societies and the Public Relations Society of America. Athletically, Buckhannon is a two-time national qualifier, six-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection, 10-time All-OAC performer, four-time OAC champion, and two-time OAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Laughner, who earns her second honor, is a neuroscience and biology double major carrying a 3.73 GPA. She is a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection (one in cross country and one in track and field), Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar. Athletically, Laughner is a 2019 national qualifier, 2020 USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection, three-time All-OAC performer, and two-time OAC champion.

Roberts, who garners her second accolade, was an exercise science that carried a 3.60 GPA. She was a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student. Athletically, Roberts was a 2020 indoor national qualifier, two-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection and three-time All-OAC performer.

Additionally, the women's track and field team was honored as one of 209 teams as the it carried a 3.446 GPA.  In order to earn this recognition, a team must have a cumulative team grade point average of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter.
