Women's Track and Field Begin 2020 Indoor Season at Unscored Otterbein Invitational

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team opened its 2020 indoor season at the Otterbein Invitational, hosted by Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center. Team scores were unavailable.

Field events produced three event champions between senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve), and freshman jumper Jenna Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell). Buckhannon's two champion performances included dominant displays in both the shot put and weight throw events, garnering distances of 40'6" and 53'11", respectively. Meanwhile, Sirianni impressed in her collegiate field debut, earning first place in the triple jump event with a distance of 33'5¾".

Senior Breeanna Karam (Dover) rounded out the top-three finishers for BW's field athletes, having clinched the third position in the weight throw with a career-best distance of 47'8".

Track events produced one event champion on the day, in senior All-American and Academic All-American Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit). Brennan claimed a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run, with a career-best final time of 3:09.05.

Brennan was also the top finisher for BW in the 500-meter dash, claiming second place in a career-best time of 1:20.16. Competing in the same event was freshman Hailey Borges (Brunswick), who shined in her inaugurating meet with a third-place finish just behind Brennan, with a final time of 1:23.48. Also hovering behind Brennan's pace, but in the 1,000-meter event, was senior Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon) who finished second in 3:19.59. Rounding out the top-three event placements for BW's track athletes was junior Hastings Marek, as she was Yellow Jackets' top finisher in the 5,000-meter run, earning the second spot in a career-best time of 18:14.60.

In relay action, the foursome consisting of junior Molina Otte (Omaha, Neb./Millard West), sophomore Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain), and freshmen Maddie Miller (Medina) and Maddie Roschival (Medina/Buckeye) garnered a second place finish in the 4x400-meter event, with a time of 4:22.61.

BW will partake in its home-opening meet on Saturday, February 1 for the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge at 9:00 a.m. in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.
