HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis remained ended its annual spring break trip with a pair of non-conference victories
BW (6-5) opened the day with a 9-0 victory against Drew (N.J.) University. The Yellow Jackets closed the day and its trip with an 8-1 victory against Olivet (Mich.) College.
Against Drew, BW took an early 3-0 lead after doubles play. Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and Freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati /School for Creative & Performing Arts) took first singles by a score of 8-3. The number two tandem of junior Academic All-OAC player Claire Watts (Medina/Highland) and senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) secured number two by a score of 8-0. Freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) and sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) won number three by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches to complete the shutout. Blatt won at number one by scores 6-1 and 6-2. Robinson captured number two by identical scores of 6-0. Watts took number three by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Donalson won number four by identical scores of 6-1. Sophomore Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) captured number five by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Finkenthal took number six by identical scores of 6-0.
Against Olivet, BW swept double play to lead 3-0. Blatt and Robinson (Cincinnati took first singles by a score of 8-4. The number two tandem of Watts and Donalson secured number two by a score of 8-4. Moser and Finkenthal won number three by a score of 8-5.
In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won five of six matches to close out the trip and take home the win. Robinson captured number two by scores of 3-6, 6-2 and 10-3. Watts took number three by identical scores of 6-1. Donalson won number four by scores of 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) and 6-4. Peskura captured number five by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Finkenthal took number six by scores of 6-0, 3-6 and 10-8.
BW is now idle until Friday, March 25 when it travels to Alliance to open up OAC play against the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m. The first home spring match is on Friday, April 1 when the Yellow Jackets host NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University in a non-conference match on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3 p.m.
