Women’s Tennis Defeats Heidelberg for Third Straight Victory

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team won its third straight match as it defeated Heidelberg University by a final score of 8-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on the Heidelberg Tennis Courts. 

BW (10-7, 3-2 OAC) has won nine of the last 10 meetings, including two straight against Heidelberg (3-6, 0-2 OAC).  The Student Princes, who dropped their third straight match, last defeated the Yellow Jackets on April 2, 2014, which snapped a seven-match losing skid.

BW won all three doubles matches to lead 3-0.  The number one tandem of senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) won by a score of 8-5 and now are a team-best 12-7.  The team of senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) and junior Claire Watts (Medina/Highland) took second doubles by a score of 8-3 raising their record to 9-10 on the season. The duo of sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) captured third doubles by a score of 8-2 to improve to 7-5.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won five of six matches to secure the win.   Blatt took first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-4 to improve to 11-9 on the season.  Robinson earned the win at second singles by scores of 7-5, 4-6 and 10-6 moving her season-mark to 12-8.  Donalson captured fourth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 and is now a team-best 14-5.  Sophomore Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) won fifth singles as her opponent retired after she won the first set 6-1. Peskura upped her record to 9-6 this year. Finkenthal took sixth singles by scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 10-7 as she improved to 9-7 on the season.

BW is back in action on Friday, April 15 when the Yellow Jackets host a rescheduled non-conference match against NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. BW remains at home when its hosts a non-conference match against The College of Wooster on Monday, April 18 at 4:30 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets return to OAC action and close out its three-match homestand when it hosts Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m.
