Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Break Trip with Two Shutout Victories

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis swept a pair of shutout non-conference matches to open its annual spring break trip at the Hilton Head Tennis Center

BW (4-4) opened its trip with a 9-0 victory against Arcadia (Pa.) University.  The Yellow Jackets concluded the day and the sweep with another 9-0 win against Bridgewater (Va.) College.

Against Arcadia, BW won all three doubles matches. The number one tandem of All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati /School for Creative & Performing Arts) won by a score of 8-4.  The second team of senior Academic All-OAC players Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/Elyria Catholic) and Haley Peterson (Tulsa, Okla./Homeschooled) won by a score of 8-5. The third pairing of sophomores Kayla Eeg (Waterford, Pa. /General McLane) and Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) won by a score of 8-4.

In singles play, the Yellow Jackets completed the sweep by winning all matches.  Blatt won at number one by identical scores of 6-1.  Robinson took second singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.  Junior Academic All-OAC player Claire Watts (Medina/Highland) won by identical scores of 6-0 at number three.  Senior Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/Davidson) captured number four by identical scores of 6-0.  Peskura won at number five by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) claimed victory at number six singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

Against Bridgewater, BW once again took all three matches.  Blatt and Robinson won at number one by a score of 8-2.   Watts and Donalson won at number two by a score of 8-2. Finkenthal and freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) won number three by forfeit.

In singles play, the Yellow Jackets won all six matches for their second shutout.  Blatt won at number one by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.  Robinson took second singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.  Watts won at number three by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.  Donalson brought home victory at number four by identical scores of 6-0.  Peskura captured fifth singles by scores of identical scores of 6-1.  Finkenthal won sixth singles by forfeit.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when it continues play at the Hilton Head Tennis Center with a non-conference match against Wilkes (Pa.) University at 2 p.m.
