Women’s Tennis Ends Season in OAC Tournament Semifinals

MASON, Ohio – The fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis ends its season as it was defeated by top-seeded and cross-town rival John Carroll University by a final score of 6-0 in an OAC Tournament semifinals match at the Linder Family Tennis Center.

In the OAC Tournament, all matches are ended when the winning team reaches five team points regardless of the current progress of other matches still on court.   Each match will start with the three doubles matches and will continue with singles action until the winning five points are obtained.

BW (14-10) closed out its season in the semifinals for the first time since the 2011 season when the Yellow Jackets claimed the OAC Championship.  John Carroll (15-3) advances to its second straight OAC championship match and will face the winner of the second-seeded Ohio Northern University and third-seeded Otterbein University on Saturday at 10 a.m. 

The Blue Streaks won all three doubles match to take the early 3-0 lead. The tandem of sophomore Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and freshman Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) had the closest match at third doubles as they fell by a final score of 8-3

John Carroll closed out the match with a victory at fourth and then final two matches at first and sixth singles ended at the same time. Freshman Imani Robinson (Cincinnati /School for Creative & Performing Arts) and Sophomore Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) had the closest matches going as each dropped their first sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-3, respectively when the match was ended.

The winner of Saturday's OAC Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament which begins on Friday, May 13 and Saturday May 14 with first and second round matches.
