Women’s Swimming and Diving Sweeps Hiram and Ursuline on Day 1 of BW Fall Duals

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team defeated both Hiram College and NCAA Division II Ursuline College on the first day of the two day BW Fall Duals in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (3-0) won all eight events, had seven runner-up finishes and set one BW Natatorium record as it defeated Hiram by a final score of 118-28 and Ursuline by a score of 120-13.

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included: 

  • Sophomore Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:26.1 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.65
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) won the 1,000-yard free style in a time of 11:31.79
  • Junior All-OAC performer Julia Newbould (Strongsville) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.98 seconds
  • Freshman Athena Pantoja (Ashtabula/Lakeside) won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:31.25
  • Freshman Mallory Dondorfer (Mentor) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:02.82

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard medley team of Dondorfer, Reed, Pantoja and junior Aubrey Syron (Dayton/Archbishop Alter) won in a time of 1:59.52
  • The 800-yard freestyle unit of Ratino, senior All-OAC performer Kayla McClintock (Ventia, Pa./Peters Township), Pantoja and Dondorfer took first in a BW Natatorium-record time of 8:25.81, which had stood for 27 years. 

The Yellow Jackets return to the pool on Saturday, October 23 for the second and final day of the BW Fall Duals at 12 p.m.
