Women's Swimming and Diving Team Competes in Season Opening Spartan Relays

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2019-20 season as it competed in the unscored Spartan Relays hosted by Case Western Reserve University inside the Veale Natatorium.

BW was led by the 3x100-yard backstroke team and the 200-yard freestyle squad as each placed second.

The 3x100-unit senior Alyssa Mahle (Aurora), senior Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.) and sophomore Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) were the runner-up in a time of 3:31.15.  The 200-free team of freshman Julia Newbould (Strongsville), McClintock, Ball and senior All-OAC performer Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) placed second in a time of 1:48.40.

In addition, the 500-yard freestyle squad of Mahle, Newbould, Ball and Thorson finished third in a time of 5:20.07. The 800-yard freestyle unit of freshman Aubrey Syron (Dayton/Archbishop Alter), junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill. /Lyons Township) sophomore Emily Newcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Thorson took third in a time of 8:48.41. The 3x100-yard butterfly team of Kural, Syron and Newbould placed third in a time of 3:14.81.  The 400-yard freestyle squad of Thorson, Newbould, Ball and senior All-OAC performer Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished third in a time of 3:59.87. The 400-yard medley unit of Kural, freshman LynnDee Popovich (Middleburg Heights/Reischelshelm Academy), Syron and Nockengost took third in a time of 4:27.61. The 3x100-yard breaststroke team of Nockengost, McClintock and Popovich placed fourth in a time of 3:58.44. The 400-yard individual medley squad of Kural, Popovich, Syron and Nockengost took fourth in a time of 4:36.50.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they hostsan OAC and home opening dual meet against Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
