Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Mount Union in OAC Dual

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team was defeated by the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet in the Hammond Natatorium inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

BW (3-2, 1-1 OAC) fell to Mount Union by a final score of 137-96.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference swimmer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) who won two events. Ratino captured the 1000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke in times of 11:24.02 and 1:03.46, respectively.

Also picking up a victory was junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and freshman stroker Julia Newbould (Strongsville) who finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle, respectively. Kural was the top finisher with a final time of 1:01.78 and Newbould completed her victorious event in 57.85. Senior Academic All-OAC swimmer Ellie Clymer (Independence) also won the one-meter diving event with a score of 142.00.

Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.98. Kural and Newbould also earned runner-up finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle, with times of 2:22.40 and 26.36, respectively.

In relay action, the Yellow Jackets competed in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle. BW's medley participants of Ratino, ClymerKural, and Newbould combined for a second place finish and a final time of 1:56.65. The Yellow Jackets' freestyle participants of senior All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele), sophomore Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), sophomore Emily Newcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), and senior Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.) finished third in 1:50.28.

BW is back in the pool tomorrow as it travels to Eria, Pennsylvania to take on Pennsylvania State University at Behrend at 1:00 p.m. in the Hammond Natatorium.
