Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls to Crosstown Rival John Carroll University in OAC Finale

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio  – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team finished the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of it schedule as it dropped a dual meet to crosstown rival John Carroll University by a final score of 191-99 in the William H. Johnson Natatorium inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

BW (6-3, 2-2) was led by senior Academic All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and sophomore All-OAC performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as the duo each won a pair of events for the second straight meet.

Kural won 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.22 and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:16.19.  She also was the runner-up in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:05.91.  Ratino won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:13.80 and the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:19.12.

Also picking up a victory was senior Academic All-OAC performer Ellie Clymer (Independence) as she won the 1-meter diving event with a total of 197.90 points.  Clymer also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.26.

In addition, sophomore All-OAC stroker Madeleine Pierce (Perry) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:04.98 and was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.68 seconds. senior All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:34.27. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) took third in the 100-yard butterfly, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly in times of 1:02.35, 57.59 and 2:23.24, respectively.  Freshman stroker LynnDee Popovich (Middleburg Heights / Reichelshelm Academy) was third in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:44.59.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, January 25  when they close  out the home portion of their schedule when they host a non-conference and Seniors' Day dual meet against the College of Wooster at 1 p.m.

BW hosts the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday-Saturday, February 13-15 at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals to be held each night at 6 p.m.
