Women's Swimming and Diving Sets School Record, Places Fourth at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, OHIO  – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team set a school-record and placed fourth at the three-day Oberlin College Invitational in the Carr Pool inside the Philips Physical Education Center.

BW was fourth of 13 teams with 736 points.   Allegheny (Pa.) College was the champion with 1,722 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as she won the 400-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 4:44.00 and was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:21.51.

In addition, senior Academic All-OAC performer Ellie Clymer (Independence) took third in the 100-yard breaststroke and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 1-meter diving event.  Clymer had times of 1:10.40 and 2:36.68 along with total points of 283.30.

Also, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly, seventh in the 200-yard individual medley and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in times of 59.58 seconds, 2:16.87 and 54.10, respectively.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle team of Nockengost, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele),  junior Academic All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and freshman stroker Julia Newbould (Strongsville) won in a time of 3:40.52.  The 200-yard medley relay unit of Ratino, Clymer, Kural and Newbould placed third in a time of 1:52.42.  The 400-yard medley squad of Ratino, Clymer, Nockengost and Newbould finished in a time of 4:12.01. The 200-freestyle quad of Newbould, senior Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), Thorson and Kural touched the wall in fifth in a time of 1:42.75. The 800-yard freestyle team of Thorson, Nockengost, Kural and Ratino finished sixth in a time of 8:12.63.

BW is back in action Wednesday, December 18 when it takes on Randolph-Macon (Va.) College in a non-conference dual meet during its annual winter break straining trip at the Arlington Park Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Florida.
