Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams Wins a Pair at BW Fall Duals

BEREA, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams won a pair of duals at the two-day BW Fall Duals in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (3-0) defeated Manchester (Ind.) University by a final score of 235-56 and NCAA Division II Ursuline College by a final score of 235-52.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) and sophomore All-OAC stroker Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as the duo won three events. Thorson won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.88 seconds, the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:21.78 and the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 5:06.47. Ratino touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:02.42, the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.68 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:34.01.

Earning a pair of victories was junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) as she captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.51 and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:20.55.

Also winning an event were freshman stroker LynnDee Popovich (Middleburgh Heights/Reichelshelm Academy),freshman stroker Julia Newbould (Strongsville) and freshman stroker Aubrey Syron (Dayton/Archbishop Alter). Popovich won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.17. Syron brought home the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:25.41. Newbould took the victory in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.44. 

In relay action, the 200-yard free team of senior Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), sophomore Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), Thorson and Newbould (Strongsville) took first in a time of 1:48.00.  The 200-medley unit of Kural, senior Academic All-OAC performer Ellie Clymer (Independence), Nockengost and Newbould finished first in a time of 1:59.91. The 400-yard medley squad of Kural, Popovich, Newbould and Nockengost claimed first in a time of 4:33.45.  The 400-yard free team of Thorson, McClintock, Ball and Nockengost placed first in a time of 4:04.40.

BW returns to the pool on Saturday, November 2 when it concludes its four meet homestand when it hosts a non-conference dual meet against Ohio Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets return to OAC action on Friday, November 8 when it travels to Alliance for a dual meet against the University of Mount Union at 6 p.m.
