WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and ninth-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team remained undefeated as it won all three of its matches at the annual Waynesburg University Duals inside the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
BW (9-0) defeated Penn State Behrend College by a final score of 45-3 in its first match. BW then defeated No. 24-nationally ranked Waynesburg by a final score of 23-10. BW closed out the duals by defeating The Apprentice School (Va.) by a final score of 39-7.
Against Penn State Behrend, freshman 141-pounder Tanner McHugh (New Ringgold, Pa. / Tamaqua), junior All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee), who is ranked second nationally, and sophomore 174-pounder Adam Green (Austintown/Fitch) all won by pinfall in times of 2:55, 1:22 and 49 seconds. Sophomore 125-pounder Christian Wellman (Applecreek/Waynedale) won by technical fall with of score of 20-2 in 5:37. Freshman 149-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) picked up a 12-2 major decision. Freshman 157-pounder Trevor Scherf (Graytown/Oak Harbor) and senior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green), who is eighth nationally ranked, by 5-3 and 7-0 decisions. Sophomore 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk) and junior 197-pounder Chris Head (Massillon/Jackson) won by forfeits
In the match with Waynesburg, senior 184-pounder Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) won by an 18-2 technical fall in 6:46. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green), who is ranked fourth nationally, McHugh, Bleich, junior 165-pounder Benjamin Hoof (Worthington/Thomas Worthington), Arroyo and All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) all won by decision.
Against Apprentice School, freshman 157-pounder Kevin Kelly (North Olmsted) won by pinfall in 2:57. Sophomore 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/Seminary) earned a19-4 technical fall in 3:56 and Rathburn won by a 21-2 technical fall on 3:34 at 174 pounds. Sophomore 141-pounder Aaron Kelly (Rocky River) won a 14-2 major decision and Mahaney won a 17-4 major decision. Hoof and Head won by forfeit.
BW is back in action on Saturday, December 16 when it travels to Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the Gator Boots Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College at McGavock High School. The Yellow Jackets will wrestle Manchester (Ind.) University at 11:30 a.m., Loras (Iowa) College at 3:00 p.m. and Millikin (Ill.) University at 4:45 p.m.
