BEREA, Ohio – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team jumped one spot to No. 8 in the second regular season National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III poll released on Wednesday.
BW (9-0) has won eight duals since the last NWCA poll was released, including a pair of wins against nationally ranked teams: No. 6 Messiah (Pa.) College on Nov. 18 and No. 24 Waynesburg (Pa.) University on Saturday.
Two individual wrestlers also remain nationally ranked in their respective weight classes. Junior All-American Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) continues to be the No. 2-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds while senior All-OAC 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) dropped one spot from fourth to fifth. Three other wrestlers dropped out of the national rankings in this second poll: senior Gabe Mahaney (Green) was eighth at 285 pounds, junior All-OAC 157-pounder Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y) was 10th and junior Justin Ransom (Madison) was also ranked No. 10 at 174 pounds.
Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) jumped from No. 4 to No. 1 in the latest poll while defending national champion Wartburg (Iowa) College fell to No. 2. Ithaca (N.Y.) College rounds out the top three as it jumped two spots to third. One other OAC school is ranked in the top 25 as the University of Mount Union moved up nine spot from 22 to 13.
BW is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when it travels to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Gator Boots Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College at McGavock High School. The Yellow Jackets will wrestle against Machester (Ind.) University at 11:30 a.m., fourth-ranked Loras (Iowa) College at 3 p.m. and Millikin (Ill.) University at 4:45 p.m.
