Arroyo Earns Third Career OAC Wrestling Weekly Honor

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio –  Baldwin Wallace University junior All-American and All-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) has been selected as the OAC Wrestler of the Week for the third time in his career. 

Arroyo, who earned the weekly honor once as a sophomore and once as a freshman, went a perfect 5-0 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals to lead the two-time defending OAC champion and eighth-nationally ranked Yellow Jackets to a fifth-place finish and a 4-1 record, including three wins against top-25 teams. He was the lone BW wrestler not to suffer a loss during the two-day competition. 

Arroyo, who is ranked third nationally at 165-pounds, opened the duals with an 18-7 technical victory against his opponent from the No. 15-nationally ranked University of Wisconsin at La Crosse.  He then posted a 6-5 decision against his opponent from the second-nationally ranked Johnson and Wales (R.I.) University.  Arroyo won by medical forfeit after leading the match by a score of 6-0 against his opponent from the No. 21-nationally ranked Centenary (N.J.) University.  He earned the pinfall against the fifth-nationally ranked wrestler from Olivet (Mich.) College in 1:17. Arroyo closed out the duals with a 12-3 major decision against his opponent from No. 11-nationally ranked Coe (Iowa) College.

This season, he has posted a team-best record of 19-1 overall with six pins and three technical falls. 

For his career, Arroyo has compiled a career-record of 75-16 with 39 pins.  He is a two-time first-team All-OAC selection, an All-Mideast region selection and first-team D3wrestling.com All-Freshman pick. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 13 when they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to compete in the annual Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester University inside the Stauffer-Wolfe Arena at 10:00 a.m.
