Wrestling Enters NWCA Poll at No. 9

BEREA, Ohio – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team made its debut at No. 9 in the first regular season National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III poll released on Wednesday.

After not being ranked in the NWCA preseason poll, the Yellow Jackets (1-0) move up to No. 9 where they were ranked much of last season.

Several individual wrestlers are also nationally ranked in their respective weight classes. Junior All-American Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) is No. 2 at 165 pounds, senior All-OAC Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) is ranked fourth at 125 pounds and senior Gabe Mahaney (Green) ranks eighth at 285 pounds while junior All-OAC Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior Justin Ransom (Madison) both rank No. 10 at 157 pounds and 174 pounds, respectively.

BW won its only dual match of the season so far in a rout of Ohio Athletic Conference and crosstown rival John Carroll University 42-3. The Yellow Jackets also placed second out of 11 teams at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational.

The defending national champion Wartburg (Iowa) College remains in first place, Augsburg (Minn.) University ranks second and Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) rounds out the top three as it jumps four spots to third.

BW is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 18, when it travels to Alliance to compete in the University of Mount Union Duals inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.  The Yellow Jackets will face sixth-ranked Messiah (Pa.) College, Alma (Mich.) College, Greensboro (N.C.) College and Wilkes (Pa.) College.
