BW’s Maddie Russell is OAC Lacrosse Player of the Week

BEREA, Ohio  -- Baldwin Wallace University freshman midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/ Rocky River) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.

She earned her award for leading the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 record last week and helping her team extend its school-record winning streak to seven straight games. In wins against Franciscan University, Hilbert (N.Y.) College and Olivet (Mich.) College,

Russell scored nine goals and added seven assists as BW improved to 8-2 overall. Russell had four goals and three assists in a 20-4 win versus Franciscan, three goals and two assists in a 19-4 victory against Hilbert and two goals and two assists in an 18-2 triumph at Olivet.

For the season, Russell is first on the team in scoring with 30 goals and 14 assists for 44 points. Both her 30 goals and 14 assists rank second on the team. She also has 52 ground balls, 22 draw controls and a team-high 37 caused tunovers. She is third in shots taken with 46.

The BW women are back in action on Wednesday, April 2 when they host traditional rival Hiram College on the Tressel Field turf at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p;m. It is the first of a three-game homestand. BW also hosts The College of Wooster on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and then plays its first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game versus Wilmington College on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 p,m.
