NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team defeated NCAA Division II Walsh University by a final score of 13-10 on Vasco Field.
The Yellow Jackets (3-2) were led by freshman midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) with four goals. Freshman midfielder Sierra Thomas (Medina) and senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y.) each added three goals. Junior midfielder Cara Wood (Shaker Heights/Laurel) contributed two goals. The Cavaliers were led by Maria Noble with a game-high five goals and Ivy Meloy and Steffi Zepp each tallied two goals.
BW led 5-4 after the first half and got goals three goals from Russell and two from Thomas. The Yellow Jackets outscored Walsh 8-6 in the second period as Bodkin scored her three goals and Wood added her two scores.
In goal, senior Bridget Walsh (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) played 30 minutes in the first half and allowed fours goals with three saves to improve to 3-2 overall. Freshman Gabrielle Nondorf (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) played 30 minutes in the second half and allowed six goals with one save.
BW outshot the Cavaliers, 35-19, but came up short in ground balls by a 21-20 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 21 when they host Saint Vincent (Pa.) College in a non-conference game on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m. BW then hosts NCAA Division II Ursuline College in a rescheduled game on Sunday, March 23 on Tressel Field at 1 p.m. Fans can follow the action of both games via live stats and video at http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/livestats/landing
