BW Wins School-Record Sixth Straight with Defeat of Hilbert (N.Y.)

BEREA, OHIO – Junior attack Victoria Budzyn (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) scored a career-high four goals and added an assist as the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team defeated Hilbert (N.Y.) College, 19-4, in a non-conference game on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium.  The victory was BW's school-record sixth straight and improved the Yellow Jackets to 7-2 overall.

In addition to Budzyn for BW, freshman midfield Maddie Russell (Lakewood/ Rocky River) and senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) each tallied three goals and added two assists. Freshman attack Sierra Thomas (Medina/ Senior) contributed a hat-trick. Juniors Cara Wood(Shaker Heights/ Laurel) and Becky Russell (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shaler Area) each had two goals and freshman midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) added one goal and a game-high three assists.

Hilbert (1-5) was led by Nikki Schneider and Megan Smith with two goals goal each.
The Yellow Jackets held the Hawks scoreless in the first half as they led 15-0 at the intermission. It marked the first time in program history that BW has held an opponent scoreless in any half.  The Yellow Jackets got three goals each from BodkinBudzyn, Maddie Russell and Thomas to lead the way in the first stanza.

After BW scored its 18th consecutive goal, the Hawks scored four unanswered goals, two each by Schneider and Smith, with the last coming from Smith at the 3:00 mark. BW answered back with the final goal of the game by senior attack Carmen Rush (Bay Village) at the 39-second mark.

In goal, senior Bridget Walsh (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) played 30 minutes in the first half and did not face a shot as she improved to 7-2 overall.  Freshman Gabrielle Nondorf (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) played 30 minutes in the second half and allowed four goals with no saves.

BW next plays when it travels to Olivet, Michigan to play a non-conference game at Olivet College on Sunday, March 30 at 12 p.m. The Jackets then return home to face traditional rival Hiram College at Finnie Stadium on Wednesday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. and also host The College of Wooster on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.
