Men’s Swimming and Diving Secures Second Straight Victory, Cruises Past NCAA Division II Notre Dame

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team won its second straight dual meet as it defeated NCAA Division II Notre Dame College in a non-conference dual meet by a final score of 156.5-48.5 in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (2-0) won nine and tied another of 11 individual events and captured both relays.   Notre Dame won one event and tied another.

Individuals

  • Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference freestyler Mason Kooyman (Concord Township/Chardon) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.66 and tied for first in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.25
  • Junior stroker Austin Kingsley (North Port, N.Y.) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 54.47 and the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.30
  • Junior All-OAC stroker Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 52.83 and the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.79
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC diver Jason Heisler (Saline, Mich.) won the 1-meter five-dive event with 171.70 points and the 1-meter and six-dive event with 238.05 points.
  • Junior Gannon Mellett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:12.89
  • Junior Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.20
  • Sophomore freestyler Kevin Meyer (Mentor) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:27.20 

Relays

  • The 200-yard medley team of Kingsley, Tafoya, McQueary and Kooyman won in a time of 1:39.90
  • The 200-yard freestyle unit of Mellett, freshman freestyler Ian Hochstetler (Doylestown/Wadsworth), junior stroker Jack Kielmeyer (Westerville/South) and junior freestyler Will Bolin (Mansfield/Ontario) won in a time 1:36.45

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 28 when they travel to Fredonia, New York for a non-conference dual meet against Fredonia University in the Steele Hall Natatorium at 1 p.m.
