Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Penn State-Behrend in Landslide Win

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team won a non-conference match against Pennsylvania State University at Behrend in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (5-0) won four events, had six runner-up finishers as it defeated Penn State Behrend by a final score of 118-105.

The Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Junior Austin Olsavsky (Medina) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.02 and the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.06.
  • Freshman Tyson Swihart (Sarasota, Fla. / Sarasota Military Academy) took second in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:29.71.
  • Freshmen Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:04.93
  • Freshman Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.69.
  • Freshman Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:00.32 and placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:20.98.
  • Sophomore Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) took first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.47.
  • Freshmen Gannon Mellett (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon Area) placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:41.83

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard medley relay of Tafoya, McQueary, freshmen Luke Minick (Stow / Archbishop Hoban) and Olsavsky placed second in a time of 1:42.20.
  • The 400-yard freestyle squad of Kooyman, freshmen Will Bolin (Mansfield / Ontario), freshmen Ethan Morrison (Conneaut) and Swihart, placed second in a time of 1:31.94.

The Yellow Jackets return to the pool on Saturday, November 13th has it travels to Alliance for a conference meet against Mount Union in the Hammond Natatorium.
