ALFRED, New York – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team opened their 2018-19 season with a game against Alfred (N.Y) State.

BW (1-0) wasted no time getting the new campaign underway as they jumped out to 27-3 commanding lead over the Pioneers. The scoring barrage began with a layup from junior forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) at the 18:54 mark. The Yellow Jackets maintained their lead and closed the half at 46-26.

BW followed the same note of the first half and started the second half with a 31 to 15 run and sealed the game at 85-52. Junior guard Zach Cebula (Brunswick) and Colombo lead BW with 12 points apiece. Also in double figures was senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln), with 11. Grasping his first double-double of the season was junior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) with 10 boards and points. Junior Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) facilitated the offense with four assists.

The Yellow Jackets shot an impressive 50% from the field and dominated the glass, outrebounding the Pioneers 46-30. BW's bench played a key factor in the game totaling 46 points to Alfred St.'s 10. Turnover totals favored the Pioneers as they lost the ball 13 times to BW's 16.

BW will hit the court again on Friday, November 16 when they travel to Rochester, N.Y to compete in the Chuck Ressler Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester. Their first game will be against Cabrini (Pa.) University at 3 p.m.
