Men's Basketball Drops Conference Game at Home Against Capital

BEREA, Ohio – A tough second half from the floor led to the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team dropping an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to visiting Capital University, 85-68, at the Lou Higgins Center inside Ursprung Gymnasium.

BW (4-4, 1-3 OAC) was led offensively by senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC point guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) and junior Academic All-OACguard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) with each scoring in double figures with 19 and 15 respectively. Battle shot 6-13 (32%) and Quiring shot 4-12 (25%), while junior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) was tied for a game-high 10 boards.

Both teams traded baskets for the first five minutes and when the score was tied at eight, the Yellow Jackets when on a 6-0 spurt that forced Capital to take a timeout with 13:24 left in the first half. BW held onto that lead, with the Crusaders threating multiple times, bringing the game to one possession. With 2:15 left, Capital would tie the game up at 32 off a Crusader lay-up, and in the final minutes, Capital was able to grab a 36-35 lead heading into intermission.

BW opened the scoring in the second half off a lay-up from junior forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/ Tuscarawas Central Catholic) which gave them the advantage. Capital then went on a 14-2 run that propelled them ahead by 11 at the 15:43 mark. Over the next five minutes, Capital remained hot and continued to extend their lead to 63-45. BW struggled from the floor in the second half, shooting 12-34 (35%) from the floor and 3-13 (23%) from deep, resulting in an 85-68 loss.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Monday December 17, when they travel to Trine, Indiana to take on Trine University in a non-conference matchup. Game is set to tip-off at 4 p.m.
