Six Yellow Jackets Score in Double Digits in Victory Over Heidelberg

BEREA, Ohio – Six Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball players' scored in double figures, which led to a 100-78 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Heidelberg University inside Ursprung Gymnasium at the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (8-4, 2-3 OAC) was led by senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC point guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln), who scored a game-high 26 off 9 of 18 shooting, while adding three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Matthew Dimitrijevs (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville Broadview Heights), senior guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion), junior Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick), junior forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic), and junior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) where all in doubles figures with 15, 12, 11, 11, 11 respectively. Sova also added a 14 rebounds to his line, marking his third double-double of the season.

Heidelberg began the game with a seven to five run and BW would grab their first lead of the game off a three-pointer from Nader, assisted by Luke Schaefer (Medina). Up one, the teams traded baskets over the next minutes, until the Student Princes reclaimed the lead of 16-15 at the 14:06 mark. The Yellow Jackets quickly answered with a three and went on a 12-9 spurt, bringing the score to 30-25 with less than seven minutes remaining in the half. BW closed out the half on a 20-11 run and headed into the break with a commanding 50-36 lead.

The Student Princes came out in the second half looking to decrease the Yellow Jacket lead, and did so going on a 10-4 run, shortening the score to single digits at 54-46. Heidelberg then trimmed the lead to 60-56 at the 14:01 mark after a successful trip to the charity stripe. The Yellow Jackets tightened their defense and went on a 16-4 run to increase their lead back to double digits at 76-60. The two squads exchanged baskets over the next few minutes as BW extended their 16 point lead to 91-70 by the 6:22 mark. The Yellow Jackets controlled the final minutes of the game and claimed their second OAC victory with a score of 100-78.

This game marks the first time the Yellow Jackets have scored 100 points since the 2016-17 season when they scored 121 against Pitt.-Greensburg (Pa.) on December 14, 2016.

BW hits the floor next this Saturday, January 5 when they host Otterbein University at 3 p.m.
